About Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland is a distinct division of the United Kingdom, located in the north-east of the island of Ireland. For many years Northern Ireland was the site of a violent conflict – The Troubles – which ended with the signing of the “Good Friday Agreement” in 1998. The current Northern Ireland Government is based in Parliament Buildings at Stormont Belfast. A First Minister and deputy First Minister are elected on a cross-community basis and ten Ministers are appointed with responsibility for the Northern Ireland Departments.
